All articles in History of Media Studies are published open access, which means that readers may access the works for free on the open web. All articles carry a Creative Commons (CC) license selected by authors, with a default to CC BY-NC 4.0, which permits sharing and adaptation for non-commercial purposes, as long as credit is provided.
History of Media Studies does not levy article processing charges (APCs), as a matter of principle. We believe that open access for readers should not be traded for new barriers to authorship. The journal is supported, instead, by direct support from libraries and other funders, through the Open Access Community Investment Program (OACIP).
History of Media Studies, like its nonprofit, scholar-led publisher mediastudies.press, is committed to an expansive set of Open Access Principles. Authors are encouraged to deposit their papers on institutional repositories and other repositories of their choice, with no embargo.
